Times, it’s a changin’

On September 17, The Tunica Times will make history.
After 102 years as a Thursday publication, The Times will hereafter be published on Fridays.
“Many, many weekly newspapers have Thursday publication dates, harkening back to the days when new grocery stock was put on the shelves and advertised,” explained Times publisher Brooks Taylor. “With grocery stores primarily utilizing direct mail today, that reason no longer exists.

“We decided to adjust our publication schedule to reflect a more normal business cycle.”
Taylor said The Times will “go to press” on Wednesdays instead of Tuesdays, beginning with the week of September 12.
“Our papers will now come back from the press on Thursday afternoons rather than Wednesdays.
“Subscribers will be able to pick up their newspapers in their post office boxes Thursday after lunch.
“Route subscribers in Tunica, Dundee and Robinsonville will get their papers on Friday mornings.
“Single nonsubscriber copies will be on sale on Friday mornings at our retail outlets, except for over the over the counter and in the front paper box at the Times office on Thursdays,” Taylor said.
Deadlines for submitting advertising and news will also change slightly. Legal notices will be due by 5 p.m. on Mondays. Space reservation for display advertising will also be due on Mondays.
The final deadline for classified and display advertising and all news items will be 5 p.m. on Tuesdays.
“We are looking forward to making this change, which we hope will allow our small but dedicated staff to better serve our readers and advertisers,” Taylor said.
