The Rosa Fort High School varsity boys’ basketball team is 5-0 in league play and 19-0 overall, with recent wins over conference foes North Panola (74-49), Senatobia (71-61), Lafayette (73-53), Lewisburg (81-39), and Center Hill (68-56).
In last Friday’s match-up with Center Hill, Labarron Collins scored 23 points and posted 13 rebounds. Three other Lions scored in double figures: Jonathan Ankston, 10 points; and Rodney McKay and Bernardrick McKinney, 11 points each. Dedrick Westbrook added 7 points. McKinney had eight rebounds, Ankston, 5, and McKay, 4.
For the season, Collins is averaging 17.4 points per game and 11.1 rebounds. Ankston’s average is 13.6 points per game, Westbrook, 12.7 ppg; and McKinney, 10.7.
Rosa Fort played Byhalia at home last Tuesday (scores not available at press time) and goes on the road to North Panola tonight (Friday) and to Senatobia on Jan. 18. Their next home game is Jan. 21 versus Lafayette. The remainder of the Lions’ 2010-11 schedule is district play.
The Lady Lions stand at 11-7 overall and 2-2 in league play. On Dec. 30, the varsity girls had a good showing against nonconference foe Coldwater, winning 65-55, followed by a district loss to Center Hill, 38-53, on Jan. 7. Marnisha Smith is leading the team with an average of 16.4 points per game, with Sharonda Vaughn averaging 14.7 ppg and Anna Brown, 10.7 ppg.
The Lady Lions’ upcoming schedule is the same as the varsity boys’.
