Funeral services for Mary Tidwell, 82, of Dyersburg, TN, were held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 21 at Three Oaks Chapel Baptist Church, with Bro. Bill Phipps officiating. Burial with a graveside service was held Saturday, May 22 at 1 p.m. at the Salmon Cemetery in Randolph, Miss.
Mary Tidwell was born February 4, 1928 in Randolph, Mississippi, the daughter of James Thelma and Loy Elizabeth Lindsey. She died on May 19, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Dyersburg.
She was a former resident of Deering, MO. Ms. Tidwell graduated from Deering High School in Deering, Mo. and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. She taught school in Pontotoc and Tunica, MS and in Caruthersville, MO area schools. She touched the lives of countless children as a teacher in elementary schools in Mississippi and Missouri for more than 43 years. She was formerly of Robinsonville, MS and was born and raised in Randolph, MS and the surrounding area. She was a member of Three Oaks Chapel Baptist Church in Dyersburg.
Ms. Tidwell was married to her husband, L.L. “Buddy” Tidwell for 47 years. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay Tidwell, a grandson, Paul Phillips and wife, Samantha, and a great-granddaughter, Peyton Phillips, all of Dyersburg. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Ward of Blytheville, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Keith Ward, Mark Ward, Michael Tidwell, Billy Taylor, Danny Petrie, Ted McNeill, and Wayde Jackson.
