Cookin with The Columns: Life is just a bowl of cherries
Isn’t it funny how certain foods take you back to your childhood? On Mother’s Day, I decided to cook fried chicken because we weren’t going to eat together until dinner time. I haven’t fried chicken in a couple of years! It takes so long and isn’t especially good for you but it’s sooo good.
Anyway, the whole meal I cooked reminded me of eating at my grandmother’s house. There’s no telling how many chickens she fried in her lifetime (or in just my lifetime!). I’m sure it’s not the only meal I ate at her house, but it’s certainly the one I remember best--fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, lima beans, macaroni and cheese, and homemade rolls. So that’s what I cooked for Mother’s Day that day. Such comfort food..made me feel like a little girl again.
