Margaret's Musings: Yes, there’s more to Tunica than a stoplight

I couldn’t even  begin to guess how many times I’ve gotten a look of wonder when I tell people I’m from Tunica. It’s like I have just told them I am from Brigadoon, a magical city that only appeared every 150 years or so.

Occasionally, I’ll get a response along the lines of, “Oh yeah, I’ve been through the stoplight there.”

No matter whether I get a puzzled stare or a reference to the stoplight,  I am glad when I get to tell the story of the Tunica I know.

The story, the way that I tell it, is about a place where you can walk outside and still see and smell green grass. It’s flat land lit up by pink, orange and purple sunsets. It’s stopping by the mail box whether in front of your house or at the post office to catch up with a neighbor. It’s a museum showcasing our memories and telling the world about our accomplishments, great and small.
