Margaret's Musings 2.0: Whipping up memories is the real treat

There are two things that most Southerners love- a good story and good food.

Often, these two things go together. If someone has a signature dish, there’s a story behind it. The story can be anything from “my grandfather made this recipe up” to “it’s just something we always had bridge.” Ask for the food and you’re asking for the story.

I’ve seen this first hand most recently in my affiliation with the Tunica tradition known as Tasty Treats. Now for those not familiar with Tasty Treats, can I just offer a brief “bless your heart” and ask you to come see this phenomena for yourself? It’s this Sunday at the Tunica Academy gym from 1 p.m. until it’s gone. (Sorry-shameless plug for a good cause.) Please get there early if you’re coming to shop. Most years, after an hour or so, there might be a few crumbs and the stories behind the dishes left, but that’s it.
