Locals encouraged to pursue scholarships

Tunica County Soil and Water Conservation District, a member of Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts, announces its annual call for applications for five scholarships to be awarded in January 2018 at the MACD Annual Meeting. First, second and third place will receive $5000 each. Fourth and fifth place winners will both receive $3000.

The scholarships are open to any college sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in a college or university in the state of Mississippi.

Applications will be evaluated based on a student’s grade point average, activities and leadership qualities, financial need and supporting materials. Any student may apply, no matter what field of study the student is pursuing; however, an applicant who has a conservation-related field of study may be awarded extra points.

MACD is a nonprofit organization made up of the state’s 82 Soil and Water Conservation Districts, which promote the conservation of Mississippi’s natural resources through education and outreach.

The deadline for submitting applications is Oct. 1, 2017.

To obtain an application, information or specific evaluation criteria, visit the Tunica County Soil and Water Conservation District office at 1221 Kenny Hill, Ste 2 or call 662-357-0027 Ext. 3.
