The Volunteer Fire Department is a misnomer

Tunica Volunteer Fire Department was chartered in 1951. If a person was interested in being a volunteer firefighter he made application to become a fireman. If accepted by firefighters he became a member of the TVFD after serving a one year probation period. There were certain requirements that had to be met, the first being that you had to live within the corporate limits of the Town of Tunica which was later expanded to a three-quarter mile radius of the Courthouse. Other requirements included that you must leave a warm bed in the middle of a cold freezing night, leave family and friends during Easter lunch, leave the family on Christmas morning, leave during church services and leave work to make a fire call. (I know because I have done all of these in the past).
