Board to terminate Tunica Arena lease
A lengthy – and often heated – discussion at Monday morning’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors ended with a vote to bring management of the Tunica Arena & Exposition Center into the county fold.
County administrator Michael Thompson recommended that “the arena becomes an enterprise fund...terminate the lease (with Tunica County Arena & Exposition Center, Inc., a nonprofit) and renegotiate the lease or not.”
District 4 supervisor Henry Nickson moved to “bring the arena into an enterprise fund scenario to track revenues and expenses, become a county department...to cancel the lease and move the bank account to First Security.” Supervisor McKinley Daley then seconded, but more discussion followed, until Board president James Dunn called the motion, and it was approved on a 3-2 vote, Dunn and District 2’s Cedric Burnett voting no.
