Electric bills shock locals
After surviving some of the region’s coldest temperatures in years, several tenants of Buck Island Bayou Mobile Home Park in Robinsonville were upset by recent electric bills from Coahoma Electric Power Association.
“It was high,” Gloria Hunter said. “It’s too high, and we’re trying to find a way to get some kind of help to pay it.”
Though the temperatures were freezing, Hunter said she and her family had taken extra precautions to conserve energy during the extremely cold weather. Still, their most recent electric bill was $703, which is more than double their average bill, she said.
Hunter, who shares a three bedroom mobile home with three other family members, said she doesn’t believe the bill increase is an accurate reflection of her household’s electric usage.
