Minister's Moment: You Feed Them
You Feed Them
Matthew 14:13-21
My father used to tell a story—a story which is not true. Not that I would ever accuse my father of lying, but he did love to tell jokes. The way he told it, one Sunday, while he was preaching, the man sitting next to me fell asleep. Offended that someone would sleep during his sermon, Dad stopped and said to me, “Hey, Ken—wake him up!” I replied, “You wake him up! You put him to sleep!”
It never happened. My father wouldn’t stop preaching just because someone was taking a nap; and I would never talk back to him while he was in the pulpit—much too dangerous!
The point of this story, besides the humor, is taking responsibility for your own actions. The opposite is also true: we should not be expected to be responsible for what someone else does.
