Hawkins: new shop needed
Tunica County Road Manager Joe Eddie Hawkins remembers a time when, in the early ‘60’s, the building he now calls his home base was a Quonset hut used by the Mississippi National Guard.
And, he also has early memories of the adjoining shop, which is still in use today by the 23 road department workers employed by the county.
Hawkins, who, last fall, took over as head of the county road department, says it is now time to replace the aging shop, which he says provides an unsafe and less-than-ideal work environment for his employees.
