Services for Earnest “Pop” Robinson, 88, were held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at First Community Church, with Rev. Rodney W. Hibbler officiating. Burial followed in Shady Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Robinson was born May 13, 1922 in Coahoma County, Mississippi to the late Walter and Nettie Robinson. He confessed Christ at an early age, but was reunited back to Christ eight and a half years ago.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Rachel Moody Robinson. To this union two children were born.
Earnest fulfilled purpose in this life as he worked with passion as a farmer in the capacity as a machine operator for 41 years. He was a truck driver for seven years and he worked at the grain elevator for five years. In 1982 he retired from farming as his health began to fail him.
He is gone but will not be forgotten because he made a great impact on many lives that he came in contact with. He was such a unique individual. He loved to talk and he never met a stranger.
November 29, 2010 he became a resident at the Tunica Nursing Home to receive assistance for his health care. Then on May 1, 2011 he departed this life to join with family members who preceded him in death: his parents; his loving wife; two sisters, Samella Johnson and Earline Pringle; and two brothers, Freddie Jones and Eddie Jones.
Cherishing the beloved memories of Earnest are two daughters, Nettie (L.C.) Reed of Tunica, MS and Viola (Anthony) Henley of Lambard, IL; his son Jerry Robinson of Tunica, MS; five grandchildren, Shontina Reed, Latorian Henley and Lartez Reed, all of Tunica; and Tenesha Henley and Tyran Henley, both of Chicago, IL. He leaves eight great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, three special nephews, two nieces, and four great-nieces and nephews. Earnest had two very special young men in his life, Christopher (Ruthie) Davis of Horn Lake and Jacky Matthews of Robinsonville; special friends Sylvester Herring, Irby Matthew, Aaron Bedford and J.D. Ware and a host of other relatives, in-laws and friends.
