SO ‘swats’ suspect in Fri. arrest


Sheriff’s deputies, Town of Tunica police and a DeSoto County police helicopter converged at the intersection of School Street and Academy Drive about mid-afternoon last Friday, after a suspect eluded a joint TCSO/Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics operation at a home in White Oak.

PSC: Rate payers gain bill of rights


Public Service Commission Chairman Brandon Presley announced last week that the PSC has approved a Ratepayers’ Bill of Rights to help assure customers of fair treatment by utility companies.
Presley first proposed the idea for a ratepayers’ rights measure in Mississippi in February 2009.
“We put into place in Mississippi some basic, decent and humane guidelines for how customers should be treated by their utility companies,” Presley said. “This is an historic achievement for the people of Mississippi.”

Main St. umbrella may cover hwy.


To incorporate the highway or not to incorporate the highway. That was the question pondered by town officials, citizens and business owners at a special meeting on Wednesday, July 28.
Bob Wilson, director of Mississippi Main Street, presented a power point presentation highlighting possibilities for Tunica. Wilson said creating a highway district was possible, even though it would not encompasses the same design as downtown.
“Even though the area is not considered historic, there’s a way to make it look attractive,” Wilson said.
