Next phase of development lies with study
On Oct. 5, supervisors gave the official nod to a project designed to help envision new and different ways to improve the local economy.
Board attorney Andy Dulaney said the Tourism Commission had solicited and received proposals for a market analysis. They had received three proposals and ultimately selected PricewaterhouseCoopers to conduct the study.
Dulaney noted that PwC had also conducted a market analysis of Tunica County in 1999. The study and expenses will cost $110,000, with the gaming industry putting up $50,000.
TA bustling with activities this fall
The 2010/2011 school year is in full swing at Tunica Academy.
On the academic front, Principal Ed Beach says that teachers and students are spending more time and putting more emphasis on math this year in an effort to increase student performance. As for athletics, he says that the work continues on the baseball/softball complex and that everyone has been enjoying the new football press box, compliments of the Crawfish Crew. As the holiday season quickly approaches, the calendar is filling up with exciting athletic, fundraising and social events.
A Hero's Welcome
Tunica touched by pilgrim’s progress
When the idea of making a pilgrimage from Quebec to Mexico came to Anne-Marie Michel, she couldn’t shake the feeling that it was something she must do. And as she rests in the home of a Tunica County resident, Michel says she is glad that the Lord directed her on this path.
Michel, 34, embarked on her journey from Canada on May 27, 2010 with many hopes and miles in front of her. Ultimately, her mission is to make a statement against abortion, as she will conclude her pilgrimage at the shrine honoring the protector of unborn children.
