Bad weather hits Tunica once again
Town of Tunica streets were coated with a “lasagna” of sleet, frozen rain and snow last week.
Town board updated on festival, fire contract
The date has been set and the theme has been announced for what’s been called “the best little party in Mississippi.”
The annual Rivergate Festival is set for April 17 and 18, according to Tunica County Chamber & Economic Development Foundation President/CEO Lyn Arnold. Festival goers can prepare for Blues, Barbecue and Brews during the two day event.
Arnold told the Board of Aldermen that many favorite aspects of the festival will return. Organizers are booking entertainment for Friday night. The festival will include the Running of the Hogs, the William Brandon Dawson 5K Run/Walk, kids’ activities, Tunica Idol, the horseshoe tournament, and mechanical bull riding. Arnold said plans are being made to include a kids’ pedal tractor pull as well.
Rape alleged at local high school
Facts are still emerging about an alleged rape at Rosa Fort High School in early November, nearly four months after the incident occurred.
News reports began to surface late last week concerning a 15 year old special needs student at the school who said she was raped in a classroom during school hours.
Attorney Stephanie Morris of Cleveland, who is representing the victim’s family, said as many as four or five male students may have been involved.
“It was a big to-do at the school,” Morris said of the November 10 incident. “Someone ran to get help, and an ambulance responded.”
