Eco-festival debuts this fall

Tunica RiverPark and area Girl Scouts have teamed up to bring a unique new event to Tunica County’s resort area.
Romp on the River 2010, set for Saturday, October 16, is billed as a community eco-festival showcasing the “green” community, artists, craftsmen and musicians on the banks of the Mississippi.

Gang Awareness

Do you think there’s no gang activity in Tunica County?
If you do, you could be dead wrong, according to two former law enforcement officials who spoke to a rare joint meeting of the Tunica Lions and Rotary clubs last Thursday.
“Gangs are prevalent in every city and county in Mississippi and throughout the U.S.,” says Donnie Mullins, retired from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, where he was Chief Investigator at the State Penitentiary in Parchman. Read more


Tunica native prepares to take on Ole Man River

Elizabeth Long, also known as Catfish Lil, is preparing to swim the mighty Mississippi River on Sept. 4.
Others may have gone before her, but Long has a special condition that makes this effort even more difficult than swimming against one of the strongest currents on earth. She has pulmonary hypertension, which is a condition that robs its victims of their very breath.
Regardless, Long is training and preparing herself for this journey and not for herself or even to bring awareness of her illness. Read more

Participants in the Southern Belle Snaffle Bit Futurity prepare for their time in front of the judges during the four day event hosted by the Paul Battle Arena.  The competition included Hunter, Breeder, Western Riding and Western Please classes. The Southern Belle Snaffle Bit Futurity has been held in Tunica for several years.
