Rates on tap for hearing
With water wells now pumping an average of 16 hours a day, officials for the town of Tunica are putting the next step in the people’s hands. The Mayor and Board of Alderman will host a public hearing on town water and sewer services on Thursday, June 17.
During the hearing, officials will seek input from the public on proposed changes to residential and commercial water and sewer rates. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the board room at town hall.
In previous meetings, the board has discussed tailoring rates in line with what the Tunica County Utility District charges. Rates range from $10 to $12 for residential water and sewer services. Commercial customers may pay between $12 and $300 for water and sewer.

WIN Center: First stop for job seekers, employers
Officials with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security want Tunica Countians to know that the agency is here to help them during the current depressed economy.
The local WIN (Workforce Investment Network) Job Center, at 1054 South Fitzgeralds Boulevard in Robinsonville, has many resources to assist those who are out of work or working less than full time or those seeking to upgrade their job skills.
Janet Scott, office manager of the Robinsonville center, and MDES executive director Les Range said that a range of programs being offered to Tunica Countians includes three that may not be widely understood.
