Harriet Miller Bachman Rutledge, 98, of Moss Point, MS was called home to the Lord on Monday, December 06, 2010 in Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Rutledge was born in Winona, MS, June 25, 1912 to David See and Mary Martin Diggs Bachman. She married Leo Humphreys Rutledge “Sweet” on December 25, 1935. They resided in Crenshaw, MS where they raised their family of three children, two daughters and a son. She belonged to Crenshaw Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, led Bible studies, played the piano and organ and directed the choir. She taught school in Crenshaw, Sledge and Tunica.
Harriet moved to Moss Point in 1982. She was a member of Dantzler Memorial Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Her chocolate pie was a favorite with the church’s Young at Heart group. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to bridge clubs in Moss Point and Pascagoula. She also enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Moss Point Garden Club. Harriet loved to entertain and enjoyed playing the organ.
She was preceded in death by her husband “Sweet” of forty-three years, her parents, and two sisters, Charlotte and Eugenia.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Travis Stallworth of Pascagoula, MS, daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Robert McCool of Maben, MS, son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Pam Rutledge of Richmond, VA, nine grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and her friend and long-time caregiver, Maggie Newsome.
Visitation was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8 at Dantzler Memorial Methodist Church in Moss Point, MS followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. Interment was on Friday, December, 10 at 11 a.m. at Longtown Cemetery in Longtown, MS.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Dantzler Memorial Methodist Church, 4912 Weems St., Moss Point, MS 39563.
