Cookin with The Columns: Something warm

This is a great time of the year for hot chocolate.
When I was little, my mother made “real” hot chocolate with milk and Hershey’s chocolate syrup.  The kind you buy in the little packages is good too, but this recipe is handy to use because you can make it stronger if you like it that way, just by adding a little more mix to your cup of hot water.  It’s also less expensive than the little packages if you drink a lot of hot chocolate, and also makes a nice gift to share with a neighbor on a cold winter day.

Throw in a few little marshmallows after stirring the chocolate mix in the water, if you want them.  Add a good book and a blanket and you are all set for the cold weather!

1 8 qt. pkg. nonfat powdered milk
1 lb. Nestle’s Quick
1 (6 oz.) jar coffeemate
8-10 Tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup sugar

Mix and store in airtight container.  Use about 1/3 cup for each cup boiling water.
