The death of a local church parishioner is still under investigation by authorities in DeSoto County.
Alex Ward was discovered dead in his home by neighbors on Saturday, Aug. 14. Investigators have stated that Ward was doused in an accelerant such as kerosene or gasoline and preliminary autopsy reports have indicated he died from smoke inhalation and thermal burns. He was found unresponsive in a bathtub inside his home in the Delta Bluff subdivision in Walls, Miss.
Ward’s wife, Brenda, was found alive but badly injured in the kitchen. She was taken to the Regional Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday, Aug. 23.
Alex Ward’s death was ruled a homicide.
The Wards were members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Robinsonville, Miss. Church members said the couple will be deeply missed.
In addition to their church responsibilities, Brenda Ward was employed by the DeSoto County Schools. Alex Ward was in management for Atmos Entergy and served as the president of the Delta Bluffs Homeowners Association.
