Local among Slumpbuster Champs

Jack Marshall Harrell of Tunica (front row, second from right) was among the members of the Easley Baseball Club, a 10u AAA USSSA team, who recently won the world’s largest youth baseball tournament, the Omaha Slumpbuster.

Other team members were: Brannon Kirkpatrick, Grant Walendzik, Hudson Denley, Noah Watson, Landon Smith, Brolin Haley, Cowen McKnight, Gavin Odom and Connor Wray. The Slumpbuster, which has been in existence for 16 years, brings teams from nearly 40 states together for tournament play in conjunction with the college world series. During their tournament run, EBC played teams from Texas, Kansas, Illinois and Missouri. They defeated the Capital City Monarchs of Topeka 5-4 in the championship game, after trailing 2-4 in the last inning. EBC was founded by Ed Easley, a former catcher for MSU and the St. Louis Cardinals. The team was led by Brandon Sing, a former major league baseball player. Jordan Barnes, also a former major league player, was the assistant coach for the weekend.
