Cochran meets with locals
U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, met recently with Mississippi rice growers who were in Washington to attend USA Rice Federation meetings.
Gibb Steele of Greenville (center) presented Cochran with a “Friend of the USA Rice Industry” award in appreciation for the Senator’s work on the 2014 farm bill, the five-year agriculture policy measure enacted on Feb. 7. Meeting with Cochran at the U.S. Capitol were (left to right): Ronnie Aguzzi of Cleveland, Curtis Berry of Tunica, Steele, Nolen Cannon of Tunica, Kirk Satterfield of Benoit, and Buddy Allen of Tunica. Rice production in Delta was valued at $141 million in 2013, ranking it among the top 10 commodities produced on Mississippi farms.
