County enacts new animal control law
Cruelty to animals is now against the law in Tunica County.
Supervisors adopted an animal control ordinance on July 1 that gives county officials broad discretion to regulate animals kept as pets and to monitor how pet owners care for their animals.
The law officially goes into effect August 1.
Fourteen articles of the ordinance address various aspects of animal control, including enforcement, animal cruelty and fighting, unattended animals inside cars, vicious animals and animals running at large, the number of dogs and cats that people can lawfully own and keep on their premises, and also general responsibilities of pet ownership.
