THS gets boost from star’s foundation
When matchbox twenty frontman Rob Thomas appears in concert at Harrah’s Tunica on August 27, he will have a special announcement to make.
The Tunica Humane Society has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the foundation established by Thomas and his wife.
The Sidewalk Angels Foundation is a New York-based nonprofit that works hand in hand with charities across America to address social issues for humans and animals. The Foundation has raised nearly half a million dollars since its founding in 2003, for organizations like Pets Alive, Blythedale Children’s Hospital and the Animal House in Jamaica.
Recipients are selected based on past program success, demonstrable use for future funds and resources and a shared charitable philosophy. According to Thomas’ web site, the Foundation typically chooses smaller, grass-roots organizations for assistance, believing they are more in touch with their community’s needs and have more impact.
“This is the most wonderful news for us,” THS Executive Director Sandy Williams said. “(The Foundation) has already sent us $2500 to assist us right now until the concert tour is over.
