Aldermen approve holiday curfew change

Little ghosts and goblins will get an extra half hour of trick-or-treating time this year, after town officials moved the customary curfew time back from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first whistle will blow at 7:30 p.m. as a warning of the final whistle at 8.
Town officials noted that Daylight Savings Time will not end until after Halloween this year. It is still light at 5 p.m., delaying the start of the spooky holiday.
In a divided vote on Tuesday, the town of Tunica Board of Aldermen approved lending support to a bill proposed by the Mississippi Municipal League that would give citizens of a municipality the option to vote on a local sales tax. Called the Citizens for Economic Development Act, the bill will be submitted to the Legislature for action in the 2013 session. The revenue raised through the local sales tax would be designated for specific economic development projects.
