Making Sookie's Maker

Tunica native Charlaine Harris charmed an overflow crowd at last Sunday’s booksigning at the Tunica Museum, opting to give a brief talk and then take questions from the crowd instead of reading from her work.
Harris was also tapped for the museum’s exhibit, “Sons and Daughters of Tunica County,” during the program. She has published scores of books and short stories, had eight books on the New York Times best seller list at once, and won an Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery in 2001.
Harris has stayed grounded, though, despite the success she has enjoyed since her Sookie Stackhouse vampire books were first adapted for the HBO series True Blood in 2008. Producer Alan Ball picked up one of Harris’ Sookie books, read seven chapters straight through and immediately saw the potential for a hit.
