Fitz reopens 17 days after river’s crest
The Fitz Casino & Hotel Tunica reopened May 27, four weeks after projected Mississippi River flooding caused a mandatory closing of all area casinos. The river crested May 10 at 47.8 feet (at Memphis).
“Our team members worked hard to keep the flood waters at bay and secure the casino from flooding,” said general manager Chuck Miller. “We filled and stacked sandbags and built temporary dams and water barriers to protect it. The water came just inches from the doors, but we held strong and didn’t let it in.”
