Board sets sights on housing
Tunica County Housing Project Inc. once again made its way on to the agenda at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on June 7.
John Schmidt, the director of the North Delta Regional Housing Authority, appeared before the board to answer questions about the local housing program. Supervisors asked about the program’s procedures on how a home is rehabbed and the application process.
Schmidt explained once an application is approved, home owners are asked to put down everything that needs to be fixed in a home.
“We tell people to bid on it as if everything could be done,” Schmidt said.
From there, everything that can be corrected before meeting the $25,000 limit is fixed. The homeowner signs off on what will be fixed before any work is done, Schmidt noted.
