New projects keep the focus on Main Street
Tunica Main Street has a lot going on, and director Lynn Ryals wants everyone to know about it.
Just after the first of the year, the local organization successfully rejuvenated lighting in the downtown area. The previous lighting system had outlined the commercial buildings along Main Street and Edwards, from Delta Street on the north to Hickory Lane on the south. But the thousands of small, individual bulbs were often a maintenance nightmare.
Last year, Tunica Main Street embarked on an effort to repair or replace the lighting. A new LED system has replaced the individual bulbs, easing maintenance while still giving downtown’s silhouette a real flair after dark.
Early this year, Main Street also produced postcard sets of Tunica scenes, which are sold in local businesses for $6 per package. Featured sites are the downtown clock, the Tate Log House, town churches, the Veterans Memorial, the blues marker, the courthouse, and the downtown shopping district. A cotton scene is included in one packet.
