Six witnesses, 20 pieces of evidence and over seven hours later, a hearing last Friday on the Tunica County Board of Education’s decision in February not to rehire Rosa Fort High School principal Stan Collins ended abruptly, with no final decision.
Hearing Officer Chynee Bailey of Butler Snow law firm in Jackson promised to make a ruling within 30 days.
Collins asked for and was granted an open hearing, and about 20 people attended for at least part of the long day.
Collins was represented by Greenville attorney Willie Griffin, while Tunica County school board attorney David Tisdell presented the district’s case.
Griffin opened the hearing on the attack, citing the district’s alleged “complete failure” to furnish specific reasons for Collins’ nonre-employment or a summary of the factual basis for his nonre-employment or to provide lists of witnesses and documents.
