Technology invades North Mississippi
Technology-driven companies that have recently announced new or upgraded locations in Northwest Mississippi will be spotlighted at a regional forum, set for Wednesday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tunica Gold Strike Casino Resort. The Tunica Times is a sponsor for the event.
The CEO of one of these Silicon Valley-based companies will describe how his company chose this region after reviewing sites in eight states. Morning panel sessions will focus on four high-tech educational programs that are free to schools in Northwest Mississippi as well as the region’s growing tourism footprint.
The forum also will include the Mississippi Economic Council’s Blueprint Mississippi Road Show, where participants will use high-tech electronic voting to focus on key issues for the state and the region.
Harrah’s hosts Bellator Fighting on March 26
Bellator Fighting Championships today announced that Bellator 38 will take place at the Harrah’s Tunica Hotel and Casino in Tunica Resorts, Mississippi on March 26, 2011. The event will be broadcast live on MTV2.
Tickets for the event are on sale now through Ticketmaster. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the first fight taking place at 5 p.m. The event will be broadcast at a special time, hitting airwaves live on MTV2 at 7 p.m. EST.
County shows good growth since 2000
The population of Tunica County has increased 17 percent, or 1551 people since the year 2000, to 10,778 residents, according to census figures released this month.
The increase is slightly less than pre-census estimates, which pegged the county population at just over 11,000.
Meanwhile, the town of Tunica’s population has declined 102 people, from 1132 in the year 2000 to this year’s 1030.
