Conference digs up interesting topics

A small group of archaeologists and artifact collectors from the surrounding area converged in Tunica recently as the Mid-South Archaeological Society hosted its annual conference at the Tunica Museum.
The half-day conference, which took place on Saturday, June 2, attracted approximately 25 archaeologists from Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas, according to Sam Brookes, a retired archaeologist with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the host of this year’s event.

Tunica civic club still vital in life of community

Can a Tunica civic club that’s been around 83 years still be relevant today?
Since purchasing its own building in 2005 and undertaking a large, much-needed renovation there, the Tunica Rotary Club has indeed been on the move.
From starting an annual golf tournament as a fundraiser, to recruiting new members, and to bringing a variety of interesting speakers to its Thursday lunch meetings, the club has seen a recent resurgence.

This year’s Fair offered a full day of fun at the Battle Arena on Saturday, June 9. Kids lined up for face painting and time on the bouncy slide as well as a look at the various equipment used by the road department.

Chase ends happily

“The sound of a woman’s voice crying, ‘Help me! Help me!” woke me up at six o’clock yesterday morning,” Carolyn Roberts said last Friday, “so I called the police.
“I thought somebody was being attacked.”
Town patrolman Melvin Carter responded to Roberts’ call, and thus began what turned into a three-day “wild bird chase.”
