Southern Gardening: A million uses for a Million Bells
Million Bells is one of my favorite flowering plants in the early summer. I think you’ll find this plant to be a good choice for the summer landscape in your Mississippi garden.
Million Bells are known botanically as Calibrachoa, and you may see them called by either name in garden centers. Regardless of what name they go by, you need to have some of these garden performers in your landscape.
Roadside murders linked
UPDATE: A suspect in this case was taken into custody. Look for a complete story in our May 25 edition and watch facebook and twitter for updates.
Drivers are being cautioned to take extra safety measures in the wake of two shooting deaths on area highways in 10 days, after investigators established a link between the two incidents.
In a press conference Monday in Hernando, DeSoto County District Attorney John Champion and sheriffs from Tunica, Tate, Panola, Coahoma and DeSoto counties announced that a multi-agency taskforce is working on evidence found at the scene of a May 8 homicide in Panola County and a similar murder in Tunica County on May 11.
“We don’t know anything concrete at this point,” Champion said. “We have determined that these homicides are possibly linked.
“Both subjects were on the side of the road,” Champion said in response to media questions.
Board gets updates
Before taking up their regular agenda, county supervisors took under advisement bids for two or more trucks for the road department and heard from citizen Tony Perkins and representatives of the Tunica Museum and housing program. The apparent low bid for a bucket truck was Aerial Truck Equipment Co.’s $112,000. For one or more pick-ups, Country Ford submitted the apparent low bid of $28,986.72.
Perkins spoke eloquently in favor of the county’s proposed Second Chance Program, saying such a program “would be a real blessing to somebody like me.”
A Deadly Combination
The Tunica County Sheriff’s Department showed the dangers of drinking and driving during a Prom Promise exercise on May 9 at Rosa Fort High School.
