House fire ruled arson

A fire at a local home is under investigation.
Around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15,  the Tunica Fire Department responded to a call at 1757 Hospital Street. A fire was reported in the home’s interior in a bedroom in the back.

Tunica runner goes distance for St. Jude


When Tunica native Jim Arrington decided to drop a few pounds in 2009, he took up the sport of running to assist him in his weight loss efforts.
Since that time, Arrington has developed an appreciation for running, participating in a number of races, from 3 to 13 miles in distance. Now, he’s setting his sights on the granddaddy of running events – a full marathon – and he’s driven to finish the race, not for himself, but for the children of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

Trailer variance denied


A requested variance on the time allowed to replace a trailer in the town limits was voted down unanimously by the Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Alderman Jack Graves said it was a difficult decision to make as he made the motion to deny the request.
“I’ve known Murry for a long time,” Graves said to Murry McClintock who requested the variance on behalf of Irene Green. “It’s a hard thing to do, but in my heart, I have to make a motion that we deny the variance.”

Festival combines fun, food, Delta finery


Tunica Main Street will host the 9th Annual Delta Day Festival in Historic Downtown Tunica on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 9 am-5pm. This will be a day of fun, food, and family to be shared and enjoyed by all.  
With many exciting activities and engaging games for the children, Delta Day is a great place for all ages. Infants to nine year olds are invited to arrive in their Halloween finest and participate in the Children’s Costume contest beginning at 10am. Afterwards, they can change into their best racing attire for the Children’s Tractor Pull contest at 2 pm, where they race old tractors for the winning trophy and the all important bragging rights. Judging will also take place for the scarecrows the creative grades at Tunica Academy are constructing.
