Police following leads in drive by
An active investigation is now open following a drive-by shooting on Beatline Road in the town of Tunica on Thursday, March 2.
Interim police chief Mike Nichols said officers were called to the scene shortly after 9 p.m. The home was occupied at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported. Nichols said that was fortunate, but urged people to remember that those not involved in the underlying conflict or dispute can also fall victim.
Board gets preliminary report on clinics
A report given to county leaders Monday by consultant Mitch Monsour of Mercator Health Advisors of Jackson, Miss. may not have contained good news, but Monsour did put forward new opportunities for Tunica County to enhance “sustainability” and reduce “subsidization” at its two clinics.
June vote takes shape
This spring’s campaigns for municipal office are shaping up to be low key. The qualifying deadline passed last Friday, March 3, with incumbent mayor Chuck Cariker drawing no opposition for the June vote. Cariker will begin his third term as mayor in July. He had served one term as alderman before being elected mayor in 2009.

Traugott Bromme was born near Leipzig, Germany in 1802 and came to the United States in 1820. He traveled extensively in the South, Texas and Mexico.
Bromme became a surgeon on a Columbian war schooner and cruised throughout the West Indies. For reasons unknown he was detained for a year as a prisoner in Haiti.
After his release Bromme returned to Germany where he compiled and published geographical studies of the places he visited on his travels.
